Steuernagel’s sound work—a blend of music, ambient sound, and noise—stems from her collaborations with choreographer Caitlin Corbett. In 1994, Ann established boy running productions. Ann’s work has been shown at festivals, galleries, and micro-cinemas throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. In 1999, Ann won the grand prize at the XX VideoArt Festival in Locarno, Switzerland for her video, "boy running".
